We learn from an early age to judge others based on outward appearances. God wants us to look past all that and love each other for who we are on the inside, just as He loves us and gave His life for us.
This year the God Squad, our fourth and fifth grade group, has been exploring our emotions and how God would like us to better use out feelings. We have already tackled how to handle our feelngs of: anger and fear. This week we will dive into what to when we feel disgust in others and in ourselves.
When we see things we do not like or understand we may begin to feel disgust, but Jesus calls us to love everyone, even those others find disgusting. In Luke 17:11-19, Jesus heals ten lepers. He looked past the difiguring disease and saw His people. He healed them not because of what was on the outside but because of what was on the inside.
I encourage you all to use this learning opportunity, as a starting point to have discussions with your children about feelings. You can also add this simple prayer: God, teach us to love others the way you love us. Amen.
